Water damage restoration services in Bergen County

Emergency water extraction

The first hours decide the size of the loss. Pumps and truck-mounted extractors, standing water out before it reaches subfloor, framing and mechanicals.

Flood and storm damage cleanup

Bergen is one of the most flood-exposed counties in New Jersey and this is the work that defines it here. River water and surface flood water are contaminated, so the job is not simply drying: containment, removal of saturated porous material, sanitizing with EPA-registered products, and verification before the space goes back into use. We also document it as a flood claim from the start, because that is a different policy and a different process.

Basement flooding and sump pump failure

Bergen basements are finished space — family rooms, in-law suites, home offices — with the boiler, the panel and the water heater in the same room. A pump that fails during the outage the storm caused takes all of it at once. We pump out, remove what cannot be dried, dry the slab and foundation walls to readings, and treat the space before it is rebuilt.

Burst and frozen pipe cleanup

Supply lines in unheated crawlspaces, garages and exterior walls freeze and split, and the damage shows on the thaw. In the Palisades high-rises the equivalent is a riser or a sprinkler head, and the water goes down rather than out.

Structural drying and dehumidification

We dry to instrument readings, not to a schedule. The moisture you cannot see is the moisture that causes the second claim — and in a house that has flooded before, the second claim is what the carrier is watching for.

Mold removal and remediation

Repeat flooding and finished below-grade space make this a mold county. We contain, remove affected material, remediate to IICRC S520, and treat preventively on every water job — colonization can begin within 24 to 48 hours, and in a house that floods regularly it is often already established.

Sewage and contaminated water cleanup

Sewer backups through basement floor drains, and river water carrying whatever it picked up on the way. Category 3 handling throughout: containment, disposal, sanitizing, verification.

Fire and smoke damage restoration

Extraction, structural drying, soot and char removal and odour treatment as one job rather than two contractors.

What makes Bergen County water damage different

Two river basins and a tidal shoreline. The Passaic puts water into Lodi, Garfield, Wallington, Elmwood Park, Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook on a schedule the residents could recite from memory. The Hackensack does the same in Oradell, New Milford, River Edge and Bogota. And the Meadowlands edge — Little Ferry, Moonachie, Carlstadt, South Hackensack — takes tidal surge on top of it, as Hurricane Sandy demonstrated when a berm failure put entire streets under. The remnants of Hurricane Ida in September 2021 hit the same towns again. In Bergen, “has this happened before?” is a question with a real answer, and it changes both the drying plan and the claim.

Repeat losses and what carriers do about them. A second or third water claim on the same address changes the conversation with the insurer. Documentation stops being paperwork and starts being the thing that decides the claim. We photograph, log moisture readings daily and produce an itemized scope on every job for exactly this reason.

The Palisades high-rise corridor. Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, Edgewater and Guttenberg run to towers and large condominium buildings, where one sprinkler discharge or riser failure runs down through dozens of floors and dozens of units. That is a coordination job as much as a drying job — building management, two policies, elevator and access rules, and residents who need to be told what is happening.

Suburban housing with everything downstairs. Across Paramus, Ridgewood, Wyckoff, Teaneck, Bergenfield and the Pascack Valley, the housing is postwar colonials and splits with finished basements, plus older Victorian stock in Ridgewood and Rutherford where the plumbing runs where nobody has a drawing.

The Hudson shoreline. Piermont, Grand View, Nyack, Haverstraw and Stony Point sit on or near the river, with tidal flooding and storm surge on top of ordinary rainfall. Surge and surface flooding need separate flood coverage, and we say so before the work starts rather than after the adjuster does.

Suburban housing stock with everything downstairs. The county is largely postwar and later — colonials, splits, raised ranches, bi-levels — and the below-grade level is finished living space with the mechanicals in it. That is why a Rockland water loss is usually a whole-floor job rather than a room.

Large houses and multi-generational homes. Across Monsey, New Square, Kaser, Spring Valley and the surrounding communities, houses are larger, occupancy is higher and below-grade space is in constant use. Drying a house that cannot be emptied while the work happens takes containment, scheduling and staging that we plan for rather than improvise. Where a job needs to work around Shabbat and Yom Tov, tell us and we will schedule around it.

Well and septic. In the western and northern parts of the county, a water loss can also be a septic problem or a well contamination question. Those need different handling and we will flag it rather than dry the room and leave.

Our restoration process

1 · Emergency response and assessment. 24/7 dispatch, then a full moisture and thermal survey — including the cavities and levels the water reached that nobody has looked at yet.

2 · Water extraction. Standing water out first, typically within hours of arrival.

3 · Drying and dehumidification. Equipment sized to the building’s real drying load, monitored daily against dry-standard readings.

4 · Cleaning and sanitizing. EPA-registered antimicrobial treatment, contents cleaning, deodorization.

5 · Restoration and repairs. Drywall, flooring and full reconstruction, finished to match what was there.

Insurance claims assistance

In Bergen the coverage question is usually the first question, not the last. Most standard homeowners policies cover sudden and accidental water damage — a burst pipe, an appliance failure, a sprinkler discharge. They do not cover river flooding, surface flooding or tidal surge; that needs an NFIP or private flood policy, and in this county it is worth confirming you have one before the next storm. Sump pump and sewer backup are typically separate endorsements too.

We document the loss so each policy’s share is clear — photographs, moisture logs, itemized scope — and we speak to adjusters directly. In the condominium buildings along the Palisades that usually means documenting in-unit and common-area damage separately for the master policy and the unit owner’s policy.

We dispatch 24/7 from our Hawthorne branch in Westchester, across the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Shut the water off at the main and call — every hour of standing water widens the loss.

We serve Bergen County from our Hawthorne, NY branch rather than a New Jersey storefront, which is why you will not see a New Jersey address on this page. Crews and equipment are dispatched to you.

Usually not. River flooding, surface flooding and tidal surge are excluded from standard homeowners policies and need separate NFIP or private flood coverage. Sudden and accidental water damage — a burst pipe, a failed appliance — normally is covered. We document the loss fully either way so whichever claim applies can be made properly.

It changes the documentation, which is what decides a repeat claim. We photograph before and during, log moisture readings daily and produce an itemized scope, so the carrier is looking at evidence rather than an assertion. It also usually means checking for mold that established after an earlier loss and was never dealt with.

Yes. A riser or sprinkler failure in a tower is a multi-unit job — we coordinate with building management, work around access and elevator rules, and document common-area and in-unit damage separately for the master and unit policies.

Yes, all of Bergen County and the surrounding northern New Jersey towns — from Mahwah and Ramsey down through Hackensack and Paramus to Rutherford, Lyndhurst and the Meadowlands communities.

Yes, and quickly — colonization can begin within 24 to 48 hours, and a finished basement holds moisture in drywall, framing and flooring long after the visible water is gone. We treat preventively on every job and remediate where growth has already started.
